Bio-Retention Planting Soil

Cedar Hill manufactures and delivers Certified Bioretention Planting Soil Bed Materials in accordance with the New Jersey Stormwater Best Management Practices or other site specific specifications. Our Bioretention Planting Soil has been approved and installed on projects in Hudson, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Somerset, and Union Counties.

As per New Jersey Stormwater Best Management Practices Manual, the Bioretention mix serves three purposes:

  1. Permeability - To allow stormwater runoff to percolate through to the underlying drainage and not stay perched on top of the soil.
  2. Filtration - To absorb nutrients, bacteria and harmful pollutants such as metals and hydrocarbons.  Filtering these contaminants out in the Bioretention Soil keeps them from entering surrounding streams, rivers, and aquifers.
  3. Growth - A medium for plant growth which in turn helps to absorb and break down the nutrients and pollutants.

Cedar Hill has a thorough understanding of the functions of Bioretention Planting Soil and experience in providing a high quality product that meets these stringent specifications.

Due to material and production costs required to meet the tight parameters of the specifications, many suppliers cut corners when it comes to production or certification of their Bioretention Soil in order to lower their price to the customer and increase their profits.  Often a job is delayed because submittals fail or the material delivered to the site has to be removed. In the end, these shortcuts result in failed systems and additional expense for the contractors who purchase from these suppliers.
